County Commissioners

The county's key policymakers who ensure that citizen concerns are met, federal and state requirements are fulfilled, and county operations run smoothly. County Commissioners oversee the County Coordinator, set the county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. Services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs as well as certain public health programs and capital improvements.

While Commissioners, like other county officers, are elected to four-year terms, two districts elected Commissioners in 1998 (the second and fourth districts) and the other three districts elected Commissioners in 2000, so that the membership of the entire Board cannot be changed in one election.

The County Coordinator serves as the Clerk of the Board. Board meetings are generally held at 9:00 a.m. on the first, third, and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Board holds informal workgroup sessions on the second Tuesday of the month, generally at 9:00 a.m. in room 219 to discuss ongoing county projects, get staff updates, or focus on strategic planning.
